Job Summary:

The Cook is an important part of the management team and is responsible for maximizing profits and controlling many factors such as product costs, inventory efficiencies, maximizing storage and space, managing labor costs, staffing levels, staff development, safety, sanitation practices/systems and increasing productivity.

Responsibilities:

• Determine production schedules and staff requirements necessary to ensure timely delivery of services;
• Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
• Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
• Plan, determine, estimate and cook menu items, sizes of food portions, and amounts and costs of required supplies, in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff;
• Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards and maintain its cleanliness;
• Instruct cooks and other workers/helpers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food;
• Recruit, hire and train staff, including other cooks and other kitchen workers/helpers;
• Supervise, schedule all kitchen workers and helpers;
• Answer, report and follow executive or sous chef’s instructions;
• Oversee and participate in the clean-up process for all work station areas and take care of leftover food;
• Maintain and stock inventory appropriately and prepare reports for records of food, supplies and equipment;
• Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion;
• Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards;
• Conducting all kitchen activities as per Kosher regulations; and
• Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.

Qualifications/Skills Requirements/work Experience:

• College Diploma in Culinary Arts;
• Experience in Kosher food preparation; and
• Five plus years of experience in food preparation environment.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

• Physically demanding, handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling.
